A Revolution in the Development of Contemporary
Ink Art
The contemporary ink art has gradually gained recognition and universal attention that whether people understand the history of contemporary ink art and its development so far, they will have no barrier to appreciate this art form and understand its spirit, because the paintings themselves are able to call out people's aspiration toward nature and their understanding toward life, spiritual world or inner senses. However, when this art form in China has ushered into a historical transition period in the ongoing chains of the time, how to make changes to this traditional art from its long history has become a hot topic for debates on the development of the contemporary ink art.
Based on this academic topic, this exhibition is aimed to retell the development of contemporary ink art from the perspective of art history, showcase its footprints, and demonstrate a revolutionary event in the development of contemporary ink art.
The artists defined in the "Contemporary ink art evolution" refer to the pioneers and practitioners on the language and forms of contemporary ink art since 1960s, who have enriched this art form from more than the aspect of the contemporary form. The transition of the modern society, and the integrity with the world cultures have not only drawn the art of ink painting out of the status of self-enclosed seclusion, but also have had strong impact on the mental world of the artists, who have constantly exploited the diversity and richness of this art in themes and subjects, analysed and extracted the traditional language elements from surveying the various display forms of contemporary ink art, re-studied the nature of this art, and formulated a more diverse and complicated language system different from tradition. As a result, they have enabled their own works to have new cultural values on the basis of the traditional spiritual values, and more importantly, their works have reflected sharper ideas, paid more attention to and fully express the characteristics of conception and manifestation, and thus have enhanced the spiritual values of ink art to a new height.
Liu Kuo-Sung, Hsiao Chin, Qiu Deshu, Gu Wenda, Xu Bing, Wang Tiande, G.Y.Wu, Lan Zhenghui, and Qin Feng are explorers and revolutionaries in this historical transition in the Contemporary ink art. They represent a new height in the development of Contemporary ink art. Their works and ideas show the cultural characteristics of the language of ink art, demonstrate more of its inner strength, and make the contemporary ink art more brilliant and more colorful in the context of contemporary culture.
Likewise, this Contemporary Ink Art Evolution is bound to demonstrate its revolutionary values and significance in the aspects of academics and styles in the historical chains of the Contemporary Ink Art development.
